If you have any love of "The Wizard of Oz" or "Wicked"... skip this movie. Or watch it knowing that it will not meet your expectations.
Basically the wizard is a womanizing jerk and goes to Oz... and is a womanizing jerk. The story line is so crazy predictable it's painful.
The tearful scenes make me want to gag, and the scary scenes make me want to laugh. I wish I knew exactly what set this movie on the wrong path. I think the casting was excellent... the acting was there... I think it was a case of a poorly written script. I don't know... I wouldn't think it would have been that bad since the other parts were there... but the plot was horrible.
It makes me sad. Hopefully there will be better movies if they make them of the rest of the Gregory Maguire series.
Best Line: "Bubbles are for show"
Cross reference likeability: if you liked Stardust, you might like this movie (however, I liked Stardust better)

The Call... not sure if it should go to voicemail
So I watched The Call because I love Halle Berry and I was completely distracted by her hair during the preview for the movie.
Basically an entertaining, don't try to think too hard movie. The action sequences were good, and as a woman who lives alone in a big city, I was frightened a few times. People could kidnap me!!!
Abigail Breslin was amazing. I expected no less but still, she did a great job of playing her part and was extremely convincing.
To be honest this was a good movie. My main issue with it is that it was sooooooo FORCED! The storyline to include Halle Berry's character Jordan was completely rerouted at the weirdest times in order for the plot to continue. For example, when getting to the kidnapper's lair, the smart thing to do would be to call the police: Jordan tries to do that but Oops, she drops her phone into the lair... better go down and get it. Now that she's down there... she can't just climb back up and find signal to call the police... I mean...she is already down there, geez!
This was just one of many plot manipulations that took away from the movie. However, I would still classify it as a good rental.
Best Line: "half your calls will be people asking directions to the nearest McDonald's"
If you liked Cellular with Chris Evans, you would like this movie.

Warm Bodies.... lukewarm at best
Okay obviously when you go to see a Zom-Com, you aren't expecting to get your mind blown.
However, I do expect to laugh more than once or if that is not possible, jump in my seat. Neither of these is difficult to accomplish with me.
I think the problem with this movie is that ALL the humorous scenes were shown in the previews so there was nothing left to make the movie fun. So maybe in a few years i will have forgotten the funny parts and be able to enjoy this movie.
The main thing that i hated - the Zombies weren't Zombies!!!!! Zombies can't open parked airplane doors, or work an old record player!!! that is way too much fine motor movement! They also can't TALK!!!!
I figured the main zombie would learn via the previews but instead they show them 'talking' before they even meet the girl!!! This flies in the face of every zombie flick ever made. You can make them fast, you can make them slow, you can make it any kind of virus you want to have caused it, but you cannot make them decide which record to play and set it up on a turntable!!
Okay, I've calmed down now. There were decent parts, but I would rather not have spent $10 on this movie. It was an obvious Romeo and Juliet/ Social Commentary... If we just put aside our prejudices we can all get along and the zombies and humans can be together in harmony.. the walls will (literally) come down.
Gag.
Ok. If you don't love zombie movies at all - this is the movie for you. If you think Zombieland sucked, you should watch this.... um... if you love Twilight!! yeah, Twilight.... there you go. Just substitute vamps with Zombies.
Best Line: "Bitches, man" - from one zombie to another

Pitch Perfect
This was kind of a "Step Up" movie but with singing. If you like Glee in any way shape or form you will like this movie.
I thought it was going to suck, but it was surprisingly better than I expected. I think part of what makes it more than it appears is that all the singing is done a capella which makes for interesting listening when they are picking popular songs.
The story line isn't great but it isn't horrible considering the movie is about battling a capella groups. There was a lot more comedy than I was expecting which made the movie watchable.
Favorite Line: "I can see your toner from here"
Cross Reference Likeability: Glee, glee, glee

Zero Dark Thirty
Who doesn't love a good movie where you know the bad guy gets it in the end?
After watching this I want to read more about the SEALs and how awesome they are. They were my favorite part of the movie.
I had heard all the hype about the torture portrayed... maybe I'm jaded but waterboarding wasn't that bad to watch and neither was the other stuff they did. In fact, I think TV shows have worse torture. I guess I was just expecting it to be REALLY bad because of the media.
Oh Well. Anyway, this movie was intense and didn't seem as long as it actually was. I think it was a little over the top in some places where they were trying to make a point but it didn't detract from the movie.
Favorite Line: "Hey, were we supposed to crash that Helo?"
Cross Reference Like-ability: Argo, Navy Seals, Act of Valor

Wreck-it Ralph
Cute movie!
I think parents will like seeing this movie with their children (not too young though). If you and your family like or have liked playing video games then this is a movie worth seeing.
I loved the gamer jokes and the variety of games they displayed. The humor was good. The story was well written, if a bit predictable.
The voice acting was great. I love Jane Lynch in this. She cracked me up and so did her story line.
While this was no 'Finding Nemo,' it was still a good movie worth seeing.
Cross-reference like-ability: If you liked Antz, or Shark Tale, then you would like this movie.
Favorite Line: "She was programmed with the most tragic backstory"

Red Dawn 2012
Red Dawn - Invasion of the US by a communist regime.
I loved the old movie with Patrick Swayze et. al..... and it was a million times better and MORE BELIEVABLE than this new movie.
I can only blame poor writing on this movie. First you want to kill one of the main characters yourself... so it's hard to feel anything but homicidal about him. Chris Hemsworth was the only bright spot in the movie and used to be a soldier so it gives some credence to the things he does. However, he somehow trains teenagers to be awesome hand to hand fighters and weapons specialists in a tiny amount of time.
First of all, they used ammo like it was free flowing in the water. Also, they had amazing bomb making abilities and took guerrilla warfare to a whole new level.
In the first movie, they were practically starving, fighting for their lives, using sneaky dirty tactics that inexperienced people use when fighting. It made sense. This movie takes the food and fighting situation out of it. By the time some of the crew die, you realize you don't care that much. They really focused too much on the romantic side and the CGI explosions.
It's sad when the lone scene of Jennifer Grey in the first movie hiding a grenade on herself so when they move her body she can take a few with them, is more moving image than all the 'moves' the wolverines did in this movie.
Cross reference like-ability: If you like Snow White (bad movies with Chris Hemsworth), then you would like this movie
Favorite Line: "Marines don't die, they just regroup in Hell."
